Despite wild international condemnation and US and UN Sanctions, North Korea on Friday fired three new projectiles into sea off its eastern coast.
South Korea military confirmed the launch of the projectiles, and also confirmed that the missiles were launched from a site in the North Korean province of Gangwon and flew for about 250km (150 miles)
North Korea's nuclear weapon and missile development program has drawn criticism from the international community, most especially, from South Korea, United States and Japan who see a North Korea with the ability to miniaturise nuclear payload and mount it on ICBM as a direct threat to them.
Since firing an intercontinental ballistic weapon last month, tension between Pyongyang and Washington has reached a fever pitch as pyongyang threatened to aim missiles at the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam and US also threatened to strike back with "abosulute and brute" force if North Korea ever strike Guam.
According to the U.S military, this latest test did not threaten the U.S. or Guam, The test missiles were not launched simultaneously but launched within a 30 minutes time frame.
Three missiles were launched and the first projectiles were first launched at 06:49 on Saturday (21:49 GMT Friday), South Korea’s Defence Ministry said.
However, “The first and third missiles failed in flight and the second missile launch appears to have blown up almost immediately,” said Commander Dave Benham of the U.S. Pacific Command.
Thousands of South Korean and US
troops are currently taking part in joint military drills, which are mainly largely computer-simulated exercises.
