North and South Korea Leaders Meet

In a bid to end the age of confrontation on the Korean Peninsula, the leaders of North and South Korea, Kim Jong-un and Moon-Jae-In met on Friday in the border village of Panmunjom.

According to a joint statement, issued after the talks between the two leaders, both Asian nations have agreed to hold talks with the US and China to replace the current ceasefire regime with a peace treaty.

"The two leaders reaffirmed the Non-aggression agreement that prelude the use of force in any form against each other and agreed to strictly adhere to this agreement" the document says.

In order to build trust, the two country have agreed to gradually reduce arms and military tension in the region and also create a maritime peace zone around the Northern limit line in the Yellow Sea (West Sea) to guarantee safety for those from either country that may operate in the water.

The two leaders also struck a groundbreaking agreement which will allow the Defence ministries and top military officials of the two region to hold a joint meeting to find ways to better settle the tension between the two country in May.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un also promised to stop missile test and also consider denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The two leaders also promise to visit each other's capitals very soon.

The summit will be the third time since the Korean war of 1950-1953 that leaders of the two region will be meeting.
