Riot in NYSC Kano Camp, Commandant Decamped.

There was riot in the National Youth Service corp (NYSC) camp in karaye, Kano State, between corps members and the officials of the camp in the late hours of Friday.

According to Sources in the Camp, the brauhaha started after the commandant of the camp decided to punish corp members that were returning from Church and the Sickbay to join those that were already in the hall for the drama and dance competition going on between platoons.

The commandant who didn't give them a chance to explain themselves started punishing them ordering them to do 70 frog jumps each.

The already exhausted corp member went on more than 70 frog jumps but the commandant still wanted them to continue but the other corp member who felt their colleagues were being unjustly punished intervened and this escalated into a free-for-all between the Corp members and Soldiers who are the officials of the camp.

Afterwards the corps members started a protest demanding the removal of the commandant who they feel is choking the social life of the camp and treating them in a way they disapprove.

According to an official of the Camp, the commandant has however been decamped by the National Youth Service Corp Director General (NYSC DG) Brig. Gen. S. Z. Kazaure and a new one has been appointed who will resume today.
