Nigerian Army Demote a Major-General Over Fraud

On Thursday a Military Special Court Martial demoted Ibrahim Sanni, a Major General and a Formal Chief of Transformation and Innovation Centre of the Nigerian Army, to a Brigadier-General.

The court martial which was presided over by James Gbum, an Air Marshal at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja demoted Mr Sanni after he was convicted on a Five-Count charge bordering on Cheating and Fraud.

Mr Sanni was accused of dividing and allocating part of Nigeria Army land, a 436 hectares in Abuja to himself and selling it to unsuspecting elements using a pseudo-company to carryout the act.

The conviction and sentence is however subjected to the confirmation of the Army Council.

Counsel to Mr Sani, Paul Sule said he would appeal to the army council to quash the sentence and would approach the Court of Appeal to do that if the Army Council moves fails.
