According to Premium Times, Two Banks were set on fire by angry tanker drivers in Lagos following an incident where one of their members was allegedly mortally shot by officers of the Lagos State Police Command.
The two banks are Diamond Bank and Sterling Bank which have their branches located at the Creek Road area of the state.
The incident which happened on Wednesday, July 19 caused pandemonium in the area and Traffic was totally blocked in the area.
According to one of the drivers, "The tank drivers usually line their vehicles along the road and police will come to collect money from them, those that refuse to part with money will have their tyres deflated.
He said the tanker driver that was shot, identified as Azeez, was rushed immediately to the hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival.
“Contrary to reports making rounds in the news, only one tanker driver was shot,” Mr. Famous-Cole an assistant Superintendent of Police Said.
He added that "The policeman has been arrested and would be charged to court immediately. But we are no longer going to tolerate the act of lawlessness and impunity by members of the public.”
However, this will be the second time this week report of Police shooting a tanker driver will be coming up.
