The U.S. military says a Navy destroyer collided with an american merchant ship off the coast of Japan and says there have been report of injuries.
The incident happened in the early hours of today (saturday). It was reported that the USS fitzgerald collided with a Ship of the American Seafoods Company 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan.
US defence official said flooding was confirmed in three compartments of the fitzergald and there were injuries. The Navy has requested assistance from the Japanese Coast Guard.
The extent of the injuries and damage to the Fitzergald are still not totally clear but is been confirmed by the Navy.
However, the US merchant ship is said to have reported no injuries on board and the damages on the ship is said to be minimal.
