UK aim to once again have the capability to strike anywhere in the world is now an arms length away as the 65,000tonnes aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth sets sail from Rosyth Dockyard in Fife.
The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth which cost UK about £3bn rolled out of Rosyth dockyard yesterday to begin sea trial.
This aircraft carrier with a deck the size of three football pitches and a top speed of 25 knots is the biggest warship ever built for the Royal Navy. The Ship can carry about 40 aircrafts and over 1,500 crew.
The HMS Queen Elizabeth and sister ship HMS Prince of Wales cost more than £6bn and both when ready (Prince of Wales will be completed before 2020) will give Uk strike capability all around the globe. However, UK will not be able to run the two aircraft carrier simultaneously due to funding and maintenance issues.
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon said: "This is a historic moment for the UK as our new aircraft carrier takes to sea for the very first time". For the next 50 years she will deploy around the world, demonstrating British power and our commitment to confronting the emerging challenges from a dangerous world. The whole country can be proud of this national achievement.
