After Signing $110 Billion Arms Deal With US, Saudi Turn to Russia.

Riyadh and Washington recently signed a massive $110billion arms deal but there are signs that Saudi Arabia is planing to strengthen military-technical cooperation between Riyadh and Moscow.

Speaking to Russian Media on Tuesday, Dmitri Shugaev, the head of the Federal Service on Military-Technical Cooperation, the agency responsible for Foreign arms trade, confirmed that the deal that was recently inked between Saudi Arabia and the United States will not in any way affect the budding prospect of a military-technical cooperation with Russia.

According to Shugaev, "Saudi Arabia is indeed interested in the development of military-technical cooperation with Russia.... a number of contract documents are being discussed, and work is in progress on determining the possible level of technical cooperation and directions for such cooperation".

Report from Saudi shows that they are planning to break their over reliance on US industrial complex and NATO nation for their weapon and also, some of US arms are not very suitable for the terrain of the persian gulf country whereas some Russia arms are more suitable for the region.

Russian Minister of Industry and Trade  Denis Manturov, in February said Russian Military equipment, especially aircraft and Armoured Vehicles are considered more suitable for Saudi terrain than Western ones and this has made Riyadh to have an active interest in them.

Also, Saudi has shown interest in the weapons systems currently deployed and being used in Syria by Russia. Some of the weapons include T-90s tanks, armoured vehicles, Fighter jets. Apart from the suitability of this weapon to the Persian Gulf Country's terrain, they are relatively more cheaper than their US counterpart and far easier and cheaper to maintain.
