Many Police officers are feared dead and many more injured after suspected officers of the Nigerian Navy attacked a Police base in Calabar in southern Nigeria.
It was reported that the attack that lasted for almost two hours (8:30pm-10:20pm) was very devastating as many life was lost and many properties were destroyed.
Sources said the unrest was a continuation of an initial brouhaha between a Police officer and Naval officers at a traffic light near Calabar stadium on Tuesday afternoon where some Naval officer decended on a traffic Police for correcting them for running the red light. This happened around 5pm. The Naval officers and the Police officer called for backup. This event led to the road being blocked for hours. Top Police and Naval officers intervened and the matter was settled but obvuously,the Naval officers still hold a grudge.
As at the time of reporting this,Four bodies has been confirmed but itis feared that there are still many casualties as most of the building and facilities on the attacked base are still on fire.
