The United States strongly warned N/Korea on Wednesday that any attack on her allies or use of nuclear weapons would be met with an 'overwhelming US response'. This statement was made by the U.S to reassure her allies that the US is still very much behind them and dedicated to her promise.
The Statement was made by Defence Secretary Ash Carter when top US and South Korean diplomats and Military officials met, weeks after North Korea's most powerful nuclear test explosion to date, and days after its failed test launch of a ballistic missile.
Ever since the aggressive North Korea's drive for the development of a miniature nuclear warhead that can be mounted on missiles, the campaign among conservatives in South Korea for South Korea to develop her own nuclear warhead has intensified.
However the United State and South Korea are in dialogue for "extended deterrence" to be provided to the south Korean government by the united State nuclear force for defending South Korea against the North's nuclear threat.
South Korean foreign minister Gun Byung-Se lamented that the threat posed by North Korea now is at its greatest as the North is "Nearing the Final stage of nuclear weaponisation".
The united State may likely deploy nuclear capable Planes or Vessels there may deploy " as soon as possible" a Terminal High Altitude Area Defence, or THAAD, in South Korea but this plan seriously angered China and Russia, which see it as a threat to their own defence.
The US is considering ways to further sanction North Korea and force her to return to long-stalled negotiations on providing aid in exchange for denuclearization.
